Are you getting married yet?

The boyfriend and I have been dating for around 5 years. We are fine with it. We are on our own time schedule and have our own plan worked out.

However, when some people find out that we've been dating for so long and are not engaged, they invariably have something negative to say about it. They all seem to think I am some sort of sucker and he is getting away with not marrying me. Why can't we just be happy with where we are and go at our own pace?

I have one friend who lives far away and every time I talk to her on the phone, she asks if we are getting married yet. It's a total downer. Why is it so important to her? Who really cares?

Peds Day 1

I finished my first pediatrics clinical. What a crazy day. For some reason we had four teenager well check ups that morning (ugh) and an insane number of sick visits. I was there for half day, which meant until 3:30 pm. We saw more patients that morning than we saw in a whole day at the family practice. I mostly just got to observe for my first day. We kept seeing patients with cardiac issues which I feel I am ill equipped to handle in an outpatient setting. It was exciting though to see non crazy sick pediatric patients and get to interact with their mostly non anxious parents.

My preceptor asked if I was going to try to work at the particular institution where I currently work and that is affiliated with the clinic after I graduate. It is interesting to think about where I will end up after all of this, because I am really not sure what area I want to be in. I don't even know if I want to live in the same state after I graduate. My employer has lots of pros and cons just like any other employer, but it might be easier just to stick with the same one. We'll see.
